Seven years after making his first Major League Baseball All-Star Game, Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Michael Wacha has put himself in position to get back to the mid-summer classic.
Wacha has proven to be one of the Red Sox's top arms in the rotation during his first season with the club, and turned in another solid outing in a 6-2 win over the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday at Fenway Park. Wacha bounced back after surrendering a two-run home run in the first inning to go six innings, allowing just the two runs on five hits, while striking out seven and walking two.

The Boston Red Sox have not been the most fleet of foot in recent years, but the tides are changing as a new core takes shape.
With some recent additions, speed and athleticism have become an advantage for Boston.
Trevor Story's speed and range were welcome additions when he signed on , and have shown up not just on the basepaths, but defensively as well. Since his debut, another superb athlete has become a mainstay on the roster, Franchy Cordero. His platoon partner Bobby Dalbec can get the wheels churning when needed as well.

Rob Refsnyder made his return to the Boston Red Sox on June 10, just hoping not to “screw anything up” for a team that had seemingly found their groove. In the games since his return, he's become a consistent bat and superb glove for a depleted outfield, serving as a mid-season hero for the surging Sox.
Refsnyder's latest heroics came in Boston's 6-2 win over the Detroit Tigers, putting a ball into the Green Monster seats for the first time in his Red Sox career, scoring the game's winning run.

The Red Sox started off the season slow, but after a successful West Coast road trip, Boston followed it up with a dominant nine-game homestand before it goes back on the road.
The Red Sox are now 16-4 in June and have moved to 7-2 after their nine-game homestand after a win against the Detroit Tigers at Fenway Park.
Boston also has been getting it done without some of its biggest stars. Jarren Duran and Rob Refsnyder brought in four runs in the third inning of Wednesday's game against the Tigers, and Alex Verdugo added in two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
