• Canada's Fernandez, Marino lose in first round of Abu Dhabi Open

    After winning two rounds of qualifying to get into the main draw of the Abu Dhabi Open, Canadians Leylah Fernandez and Rebecca Marino made early exits from the WTA Tour 500 event on Tuesday.
    Fernandez, from Laval, Que., lost 6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-1 to American Shelby Rogers, while Vancouver's Marino fell 6-3, 6-3 to China's Zheng Qinwen.
    Marino, ranked 74th in the world, has bowed out in the first round in her past three tournaments.
    Fernandez, ranked 39th, suffered her first loss in the first round in three tournaments this year.
